NUECES COUNTY PASSES 50 MILLION DOLLAR BOND TO HELP FUND BOB HALL PIER

I am pleased to report that Nueces County continues to be full speed ahead on the rebuild of Bob Hall Pier. The Nueces County Commissioners Court remains committed to properly rebuilding Bob Hall Pier. The court recently passed a $50 million dollar certificate of obligation bond (with no raise in the tax rate) to help fund many projects in Nueces County. While we hope that FEMA will eventually be compelled to do the right thing and help with this project we can not wait around for that. We are operating on two separate tracks. One is to continue to appeal to FEMA’s denial of help. The other is to do it ourselves.

The court has voted to move forward on requests for proposal on engineering services for the pier and parking lot, demolition of the existing pier, and removal of marine debris from the storm. While I wish we could move faster to mobilize and knock down a pier and get it permitted is not easy or fast. Make no mistake the Nueces County Commissioner Court is on track and working hard on this. I appreciate the support they have given me very much.

SANDCASTLE SPONSORSHIPS ALMOST SOLD OUT

I am so happy to be bringing back IN PERSON the Sandcastle Run to the Island. It is a great run and it benefits children with Diabetes. There are a few sponsorships left. So please call 361-888-0268 if interested. Also please go to Vfitproductions.com to sign up to run. It is going to be great to see everyone out there running on our beautiful Nueces County Beaches.

BUDGET TIME IS COMING

As we approach the all-important county budget process I want you to know I will continue to fight to not raise your taxes. I have constantly voted no to property tax increases. Remember the no new tax rate is the rate adopted if there is no property tax increases according to the Truth and Taxation laws. That process begins in June. I believe we will have new real growth with all the homes and buildings being built in Nueces County so there should be plenty of new money to do what we need to avoid having to raise your property taxes. Finger crossed.

With our recent well-attended groundbreaking in Port Aransas to get the I B Magee park building finally going, we are building strength in Port Aransas. The Park building is an almost 2 million-dollar project and the Observation tower is well over 1 million. Coupled with the recent over 3 million dollar I B Magee RV renovation things are really going in Port Aransas.
