(CORPUS CHRISTI) – State Rep. Todd Hunter was named one of the 10 Best
Legislators in Texas on Tuesday by Texas Monthly, which commended Rep. Hunter for
his independence and his willingness to stand up for Texans.
Rep. Hunter chairs the House State Affairs Committee, which heard some of the
highest-profile bills of this year’s legislative session. The session began in January and
ended May 29.

Texas Monthly praised Rep. Hunter specifically for improving bills after they were
passed by the Texas Senate. The magazine pointed to his leadership on Senate Bill 7, a
priority bill related to the reliability of the state’s electric grid.

“He had capped the cost of the bill. He had tried, he said, to center taxpayers and
consumers in the discussion. His bill was supported by the Sierra Club and the Texas Oil
and Gas Association, which shocked even him,” the magazine wrote.

Rep. Hunter also authored and successfully passed House Bill 5, which created a
transparent and modern economic development program that will attract major
investments and employers to the state.

The Texas Monthly list of the 10 Best Legislators consists of seven Republicans and
three Democrats. “It is an honor to serve our community in the Texas House and I am proud of what we
accomplished this year,” Rep. Hunter said. “I always work to put the concerns of our
community first and build coalitions with others, regardless of which part of the state they
represent. We will continue prioritizing issues that impact the Coastal Bend. I look
forward to visiting more with our community about the results of this year’s session —
and the work ahead.”
